In fulfillment of a request made by His Excellency President Joseph N. Boakai, the Liberia Football Association (LFA) has officially handed over an artificial turf to the Government of Liberia for installation at the Momo Taweh Sports Pitch in Grand Cape Mount County.
Speaking during the handover ceremony, LFA President Mustapha I. Raji reiterated the LFA’s dedication to working with the Liberian government to improve playing facilities in order to support the expansion of football throughout the nation.

“As part of our own commitment to work with the government in line with the vision of the President, we are happy on behalf of the executive committee about this collaboration. We believe this is one of the best ways to develop infrastructures in our country and create opportunities in terms of short-term and long-term jobs for our people as well during the period of installation, and rest assured that we continue to do our best to invest in infrastructure development around Liberia, specifically in our football sector,” Raji said. “Big thanks to our friends from the Saudi Football Federation who provided us these materials.”
President Raji also called on the national government through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to collaborate with sporting federations in order to lobby with counterparts for more of such opportunities.
“We also like to call on the government to partner with the federations through this collaboration to see how we can continue lobbying with friendly nations out there to bring more of these infrastructure supports to our country. There are many opportunities out there, but we cannot do it alone. Therefore, we stand ready to continue the collaboration and support this kind of initiative. And we wish the people of Cape Mount the best and hope that they can embrace it and consider it to be their own work.”
Receiving the turf on behalf of the government, Cornelia Kruah-Togba, Deputy Minister for Administration at the Ministry of State for Presidential Affairs, extended appreciation to the LFA Executive Committee for honoring the request of the president and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to collaborate with the LFA to decentralize sports infrastructure across the country.
“We will join you in your vision to extend and decentralize football pitches across the country in whatever way we can continue through the Ministry of Youth, and we remain committed to doing that.”
Grand Cape Mount County Senator Debah M. Varplah, who was also present during the handover, thanked the LFA and the government through the Ministry of Youth and Sports for selecting Cape Mount as the beneficiary county for such a developmental initiative.
“We are very grateful that, for the first time, such development in the entire region is going to Grand Cape Mount County. I believe the people of Cape Mount will be so happy, especially the young people.”
In line with the agreement, government will undertake the construction and preparation of the subbase and instillation of the turf, while the LFA will provide technical support where necessary.
