Monrovia — The sudden dismissal of Mines and Energy Minister Wilmont M. Paye by President Joseph Nyuma Boakai has prompted a dramatic public response from the Minister’s wife, suggesting his removal was linked to his adherence to ethical principles.
Minister Paye was relieved of his duties on Monday, October 27, 2025, in a move from the Executive Mansion that, as of press time, offered no official explanation. The lack of context surrounding the dismissal of a key official managing Liberia’s lucrative extractive sector has already generated significant public speculation.
Following the official announcement by the Executive Mansion late Monday, Mrs. Comfort Boog-Paye, the former Minister’s wife, has posted a powerful testimonial on social media that quickly went viral. Her statement casts her husband’s departure not as a professional failure, but as a victory of conscience.
In a post on her official Facebook page Mrs. Paye said: “Thank you for making me a very proud wife! Your children are equally very proud of you. Of course, your God is happy to have a child like you. Choosing integrity over wealth is the best choice any true Christian can make. You are a great statesman, so posterity will judge you kindly. Thank you for job well done, Honey!”, she wrote.
While the Executive Mansion did not state the reason for Mr. Paye dismissal, Mrs. Boog-Paye’s narrative firmly establishes a counter-perspective, challenging the public to view the dismissal through the lens of moral rectitude and public service.
The former Minister, now a private citizen, has been lauded by his wife as a “great statesman” whose legacy will be judged favorably by history.
The political and public waiting game now centers on whether the Boakai administration will respond to the integrity claim or if the silence will allow the narrative of a principled dismissal to solidify.
The Executive Mansion has since replaced Mr. Paye with former Nimba County District #9 Representative R. Matenokay Tingba.
