Monrovia — Finance Minister Augustine Kpehe Ngafuan has announced that the Government of Liberia will begin paying the salaries of health workers at the privately-owned ELWA Hospital starting in 2026.
Speaking at a special press briefing at the Ministry of Information, Cultural Affairs and Tourism (MICAT), Minister Ngafuan stated the government has included the private facility in the 2026 national budget to save it from financial collapse.
The announcement follows the submission of the draft national budget, which totals US$1.2 billion, to the National Legislature last week.
The government’s intervention comes after health workers at the facility recently staged a go-slow, prompting action to rescue the hospital, which caters to the health needs of thousands of patients annually.
