Monrovia — A group of women under the banner Concerned Women of Liberia today, November 17, 2025, staged a peaceful protest and presented a petition to The United Nations Office in Liberia to seek urgent action to help stop the sexual abuse of young girls.
Reading the petition, Ms. Juren Korlu Morlu said, as a teenager, she was speaking for girls, mothers, and survivors all over Liberia.
“We see a justice system that works for powerful people but not for the poor or the weak,” Juren Morlu alleged, furthering that, “When someone close to the government is involved in a rape case, the case is ignored, delayed, or simply forgotten.”
The teenage advocate reminded everyone at the UN that the petition is not just a request; instead, it must be seen as a cry for help.
“Every day without action puts another child in danger; every delay gives strength to abusers, and every silence hurts victims even more,” she lamented, warning that, “The United Nations must act immediately.”
The petition follows a series of protests from various women and civil society groups in Liberia in demand of justice for a 14-year-old girl who was allegedly raped by former Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports J. Bryant McGill.
