Monrovia — Liberian musical star Darius Kumorteh, better known by his stage name Teddyride, has once again been caught in a controversial situation as photos of him wrongfully displaying the Liberian currency trend on Facebook.
In a post by Teddyride on Thursday, December 4, 2025, the Liberian musical artist was seen sitting in a bathroom atop a commode, where he had splashed Liberian dollar notes of different denominations around the bathroom including within the commode. His action, a clear violation of the recently launched Central Bank of Liberia (CBL) “Clean Note Campaign,” has ignited public debate.
In September of this year, the CBL launched the Clean Note Campaign under the theme: “Our Money, Our Pride: Handle It with Care” at Rally Time Market in Monrovia.
According to the CBL, the initiative was launched to address the alarming rate of mutilated banknotes and coins in circulation. The CBL reported that poor handling practices—such as squeezing, writing on, stapling, and exposing notes to dirt or moisture—had damaged approximately L1 billion of the new family of banknotes printed in 2022.
However, Teddyride’s action clearly violates the CBL policy, and he could face a penalty of up to a L500,000 fine or imprisonment for up to two years for any wrongdoing.
It can be recalled that in January 2024, Teddyride was accused of power theft at his home in Congo Town. The Liberia Electricity Corporation (LEC) Anti-Power Theft Task Force, acting on a tip-off at the time, inspected his residence and subsequently took him to the Liberia National Police for investigation, where he was later cleared of any wrongdoing.
This marks the second time in a successive year the Liberian entertainer has been caught on the wrong side of the law.
