Monrovia — In an effort to put smile on the faces of the less fortunate and disabled community this festive season, the Ministry of Agriculture ( MOA) has donated about two hundred bags of locally grown rice to the National Food Assistance Agency ( NAFAA).
The rice, which is intended to be distributed among the less fortunate and disabled community were received by the Director General of NAFAA, Hon. Boakai Sirleaf.
During the presentation of the donation on Wednesday, December 24, 2025, Deputy Agriculture Minister for Administration , Antoinette Dukuly said the donation was the ministry way of identifying with the less fortunate during this festive season.
Deputy Minister Dukuly said the rice were purchased from farmers who are growing rice in Liberia for commercial purpose. She indicated that buying the rice from the farmers is a way of empowering them and a motivation for them to grow more rice.
” We are trying to empower the farmers.By us doing this as a ministry, we are supporting them,” Minister Dukuly stated.
She further indicated that the more Liberians buy locally grown rice, farmers are empower.
” If you don’t buy from the farmers, they won’t produce more food,” madam Antoinette said. ” Because as you are buying from them, they are able to produce more,” she added.
Deputy minister Antoinette Dukuly made the donation on behalf of Agriculture Minister, Dr. J.Alexander Nuetah.
Receiving the rice on behalf of the NAFAA, Hon. Boakai Sirleaf expressed joy for the donation and praised the MOA for the kind gesture.
Hon. Sirleaf said the donation of the two hundred bags of rice couldn’t come anytime better than this Christmas season.
He promised to distribute the rice to the disabled community and less fortunate with transparency and equity.
” In this situation, we need transparency. That’s the hallmark of our team,” Hon. Sirleaf stated.
Hon. Sirleaf said the locally grown rice is nutritional and has less sugar content thereby curtailing the risk of diabetes.
“When you buy the locally grown rice, you help the health sector because the Liberian rice is nutritional,” he noted.
The NAFAA boss further noted that his agency is already carrying out distribution of relief items across the country beginning with Margibi and Nimba,and the huge consignment of rice from the MOA will boost their relief effort.
He said the rice will be distributed firstly to the Antoinette Tubman Cheshire Home on 10th street while extending the distribution to other areas of need.
Hon. Sirleaf disclosed that by early January 2026, NAFAA will extend its relief services to the southeastern part of the country.
