MONROVIA — In a heart-wrenching development that sent shockwaves through Liberia on Monday, January 8, the mother of a 15-year-old boy allegedly gang-sodomized by a high-ranking security official has broken her silence, demanding justice for her son.
The prime suspect, Peter Bonn Jallah (known on social media as Bon Jallah), a Senior Agent with the National Security Agency (NSA), is currently in police custody.
The arrest follows a harrowing investigation first brought to light by exiled Liberian activist Martin Kollie, exposing a disturbing abuse of power and trust. The details, which is contained in a leaked audio involving the victim’s mother, suggests that the 15-year-old victim was allegedly subjected to a brutal assault involving Agent Jallah and two other accomplices. While Jallah has been apprehended by the police, the two other individuals involved in the crime remain at large, prompting a manhunt by local authorities.
In a leaked audio recording, the victim’s mother was heard saying, “The anti-robbery people were all here last night guarding us because of our safety,” she stated, while clarifying that, the accused Jallah has already been taken into police custody for questioning.
“They already arrested him. He was there and they said they were only taking him for questioning and he said he doesn’t know the child and hasn’t seen anyone of us before,” the victim’s mother explained. She confirmed that the victim is currently undergoing treatment but faces “serious” complications from the heinous act.
The situation has stirred public outcry given the age of the victim and the number of persons involved. Human rights advocates are closely monitoring the proceedings to ensure the case is not “swept under the rug” due to the suspect’s high-profile status.
