MONROVIA – In a swift response to yesterday’s destruction of properties in the Saye Town community—specifically the 4th and 5th Streets area—Montserrado County District #8 Representative Prince A. Toles has announced LRD 3.5 million to provide immediate relief to those affected.
The funding comes following a devastating demolition exercise on Saturday, January 31, 2026, that saw more than two acres of land cleared, leaving numerous residents—including a local church and school—displaced and in distress.
Relief Efforts and Verification
In a statement released via his official Facebook handle, the District #8 lawmaker expressed deep sorrow over the incident and emphasized that the priority is ensuring aid reaches the rightful victims. He confirmed that a collaborative process is underway to ensure transparency, noting that his office is working directly with Saye Town community leadership to compile a comprehensive, verified list of all affected individuals and institutions.
Disbursement of the funds is scheduled to begin as early as next week.
“Thanks be to God, we have secured over LRD 3.5 million for the victims,” Rep. Toles stated. “We are deeply saddened by what happened yesterday, and we will continue to seek additional support and assistance for our citizens.”
Community Reaction
The lawmaker was seen at the site yesterday as earth-moving equipment leveled his constituents’ homes. At the time, some residents accused him of not doing enough to help them relocate before the eviction was enforced.
However, with the announcement of this relief package, it seems that the victims cries have finally been heard by the lawmaker, as financial hardship remains the most pressing challenge for the many victims.
Background of the Crisis
The demolition has sent shockwaves through the Sinkor-based community, which has recently been at the center of various land and security disputes. While the legal specifics surrounding the demolition of the two-acre tract are still developing, the Representative’s intervention marks the first major humanitarian response to the crisis.
Toles, known for his “action over words” approach in District #8, reiterated his commitment to standing by his constituents during this difficult period. He assured the public that his office would not rest until further assistance is secured to help the families rebuild their lives.
