Monrovia — The Chairperson of the National Elections Commission of Liberia (NEC-Liberia), Madam Davidetta Browne Lansanah, has formally communicated her decision to step down from her position, effective 15 March 2026.
In a letter addressed to His Excellency Joseph Nyuma Boakai Sr., President of the Republic of Liberia, Madam Browne Lansanah stated that the decision followed consultations with her family and a personal desire to take time to rest after more than twelve years of dedicated service to the Commission.
She made the disclosure Thursday, 12 March 2026 during closing remarks at the just – ended tour of the NEC ongoing renovation works at its headquarters on 9th Street, Sinkor, Monrovia, in the presence of representatives of the Liberian Government, development partners, diplomatic corps, among others.
Madam Browne Lansanah has served the Commission first as a Commissioner and later as Chairperson, during which she played a key role in strengthening Liberia’s electoral governance and supporting democratic processes in the country.
In her communication to the President, she described her service to the Commission as ‘an honor and privilege,’ noting that the work of the NEC remains vital to sustaining Liberia’s democracy.
She also reaffirmed her continued commitment to the well-being and progress of Liberia and pledged her full cooperation to ensure a smooth and seamless transition once a successor is appointed.
Madam Browne Lansanah further expressed appreciation to the staff and fellow Commissioners, as well as political parties, domestic partners, international partners, and other electoral stakeholders with whom she worked throughout her tenure.
The National Elections Commission of Liberia acknowledges Madam Browne Lansanah’s years of service and contributions to the advancement of credible and transparent elections in Liberia.
