MONROVIA – As reports circulate regarding a plan by the House of Representatives (HOR) to cut its break short to pursue the impeachment of Montserrado County District #10 Representative Yekeh Y. Kolubah, prominent Liberian journalist Aloysius Jallah has publicly endorsed the lawmaker’s removal.
In a stinging critique shared via social media, Jallah suggested that the legislative body’s only path toward restoring its integrity is to expel the controversial lawmaker. Jallah’s comments highlight a growing frustration with Kolubah’s conduct, which has frequently been characterized by firebrand rhetoric and public confrontations.
“An Honorable Man Must Act Honorably”
Jallah did not mince words regarding the Representative’s behavior, emphasizing that the title of “Honorable” carries a weight that Kolubah has allegedly failed to uphold.
“Impeachment or expulsion is the only way out for him,” Jallah wrote. “I wish the majority could vote on that. An Honorable man must always act and speak honorably. He is always misusing power and thinks he’s untouchable!”
The CEO of Jallah TV argues that the lawmaker’s frequent outbursts and clashes with the Executive Branch have crossed the line from political dissent into legislative misconduct.
Under Liberian law, the expulsion of a member of the House of Representatives is a high bar to clear. According to Article 38 of the Constitution:
Each House shall adopt its own rules of procedure.
A member may be expelled only by a two-thirds majority vote of the entire membership.
While Kolubah remains a popular figure among his direct constituents for his “tell-it-like-it-is” approach, Jallah’s call signals an increasing appetite within the media and civil society for stricter decorum within the Capitol Building.
Representative Kolubah has long been a lightning rod for controversy, but his recent statements regarding the Liberia-Guinea border crisis have raised new questions about his patriotism.
In a recent media engagement, the District #10 lawmaker stirred intense debate by claiming that Liberia has surrendered portions of its sovereign land to Guinea—a claim critics have labeled as “unpatriotic” and inflammatory. Responding to these remarks, Jallah argued that Kolubah’s “misuse of power” and aggressive communication style undermine the very democracy he claims to protect.
As of press time, Representative Kolubah has not officially responded to Jallah’s remarks. Historically, however, the lawmaker has dismissed such criticisms as politically motivated attempts to silence his opposition to the government.
