MONROVIA, Liberia — The Liberia National Police (LNP) has issued a stern directive to the public, urging citizens to report any officers who demand payment to register cases at police depots or offices across the country.
In a statement released on March 29, 2026, police authorities emphasized that filing a report is a fundamental public service provided free of charge. “Citizens who encounter officers soliciting money for case registration should report the incident immediately via the following official hotlines: 0770800107 or 0770800129,” the statement read.
The LNP reaffirmed its commitment to transparency and called on Liberians to help uphold the institution’s integrity by refusing to pay for services that are legally free.
“No officer, regardless of rank or station, is authorized to demand, solicit, or accept any form of payment in exchange for registering a case,” the LNP stated.
The leadership characterized the practice of charging citizens for services as “illegal” and a direct violation of the professional standards expected of law enforcement. Such actions, the LNP noted, undermine public trust and obstruct the administration of justice.
“Our duty is to serve and protect the citizens of Liberia,” the statement continued. “Any officer found engaging in this practice is acting outside the scope of their authority and will face rigorous disciplinary action.”
This announcement follows long-standing public perceptions and reports identifying the LNP as one of the government agencies most susceptible to corruption.
