Capitol Hill, Monrovia: — The Liberia National Police (LNP) has clarified the situation regarding a security disturbance in the Chicken Soup Factory Community, Gardnerville, on Thursday, May 7, 2026. Addressing reports circulating on social media, the LNP confirmed that while one person was injured, no deaths occurred during the incident.
Police Intervene to Prevent Mob Justice
According to preliminary police findings, officers were dispatched to the scene following reports that an angry crowd had surrounded a residence. The mob reportedly intended to set the house on fire, believing a suspected armed robber was hiding inside.
The LNP stated that the intervention was necessary to prevent a “potentially fatal act of mob violence” and to ensure that any suspects were apprehended through legal channels rather than vigilantism.
Investigation Into Gunshot Injury
While restoring order, one individual sustained a gunshot wound. The victim was promptly evacuated to the John F. Kennedy Medical Center in Monrovia, where they are currently undergoing treatment.
The LNP emphasized that the circumstances surrounding the shooting are being treated with “seriousness and professionalism.” A formal review is underway to determine the specifics of the firearm discharge, adhering to the force’s internal accountability and operational protocols.
Warning Against Misinformation and Vigilantism
The police leadership cautioned the public against the rapid spread of unverified information online, which can incite unnecessary panic.
“Acts of vigilantism and attempts to unlawfully harm suspects undermine the rule of law and place innocent lives at risk,” the statement noted. “All persons accused of criminal conduct remain entitled to due process under the laws of the Republic of Liberia.”
The LNP reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining public safety and protecting the rights and dignity of all citizens while enforcing the law.
