MONROVIA, LIBERIA – The Administrative Committee of the True Whig Party has suspended and removed its National Chairman, Reginald B. Goodridge, over what it described as multiple constitutional violations and actions that allegedly disrupted the party’s long-delayed 37th National Convention.
In a resolution adopted on June 10, 2026, the committee accused Goodridge of undermining the party’s democratic processes, interfering with convention proceedings, and failing to fulfill his fiduciary responsibilities as National Chairman.
The True Whig Party, Liberia’s oldest political party, founded in 1869 in Clay-Ashland, Montserrado County, noted that its constitution recognizes the National Convention as the party’s highest decision-making body. According to the resolution, the party had failed to convene a convention for more than nine years despite constitutional requirements and repeated efforts to resolve internal disputes.
The committee stated that party leadership agreed to comply with a final ruling issued by the National Elections Commission (NEC) on October 15, 2025, directing the party to organize a National Convention to elect its national officers.
The convention was subsequently held in Buchanan, Grand Bassa County, on February 14, 2026. Party leaders said several measures were implemented to ensure transparency, including granting the Convention Committee full authority to manage the process independently of both the Standard Bearer and the National Chairman.
However, the Administrative Committee alleged that Goodridge attempted to replace duly accredited delegates from Montserrado, Nimba, and Lofa counties with individuals who were not recognized party members. He was also accused of unilaterally altering the list of candidates and the convention souvenir program.
According to the resolution, delegates rejected those changes. Afterward, Goodridge allegedly assumed control of the proceedings, refused to hand over authority to the Convention Chairman, and prematurely adjourned the convention before delegates could conduct elections or complete the scheduled business.
The committee further found Goodridge in violation of several provisions of the party’s constitution, including allegedly registering delegates outside established procedures, usurping the authority of the Convention Committee, denying partisans the opportunity to elect party officers, and disregarding constitutional processes.
Additional allegations outlined in the resolution include the alleged co-mingling of party funds with private business operations, managing party affairs from private offices, obstructing oversight of party activities, and attempting to draft a new party constitution without authorization.
Describing the alleged violations as serious breaches of the party’s constitution, the Administrative Committee resolved to remove Goodridge from his position as National Chairman, effective immediately, and to suspend him from all party activities until further notice.
The committee said the action is intended to restore constitutional order, strengthen internal democracy, and protect the rights of party members.
