Monrovia – Montserrado County District #8 Representative Prince Aquency Toles has hailed the peaceful resolution to a matter involving the University of Liberia (UL), crediting a collaborative effort between key stakeholders for the positive outcome.
Representative Toles expressed his gratitude to the Honorable House of Representatives, specifically Speaker Richard Nagbe Koon, as well as the President of the University of Liberia, Dr. Layli Maparyan, and the entire student leadership for finding a solution to the impasse that has rocked the UL for the past weeks.
“Thanks to the Honorable House of Representatives, represented by its dynamic Speaker, Hon. Richard Nagbe Koon; the President of the University of Liberia, Dr. Layli Maparyan; and the entire student leadership, we have reached a conclusion that meets the interests of all parties,” the lawmaker said in a Facebook post on official page.
As a member of the University’s Board of Trustees, Representative Toles underscored the importance of peaceful and constructive engagement in resolving disputes. He specifically commended the student leadership and the university administration for choosing dialogue over confrontation.
“As a member of the Board of Trustees, I want to express my appreciation to the student leadership and the administration for restoring calm by resorting to dialogue to resolve this matter,” he stated.
The details of the specific issue and the terms of the resolution were not disclosed, but, however, the announcement signals a period of calm and stability for the UL, with Representative Toles’s statement serving as a testament to the power of negotiation and mutual understanding in addressing complex institutional challenges. The collaborative approach highlights a commitment from all parties to ensuring the smooth operation and well-being of the UL.
The impasse at the UL stems from a fallout between UL President Dr. Maparyan, the University’s Faculty and UL-based student movement, the Student Unification Party (SUP). SUP accused the UL president of neglecting the student’s welfare, massive corruption and ordered her immediate resignation.
