Grand Kru County – The Liberia National Red Cross society with support from the Swedish Government has dedicated a modern hand pump and a Community information center to citizens in Norkwia, Grand Kru County.
The gesture came as part of the day-long visitation of the swedish Ambassador to Liberia in Grand Kru County on September 30, 2025.
Meanwhile, Ambassador Backeus along with other key County officials climaxed the visitation in Norkwia Community, where a newly constructed hand pump and a communication center was dedicated to the community.
The newly constructed hand pump and the renovated pump is in line with the Liberia National Red Cross border efforts in responding to safe drinking water crisis across the community.
The communication center will help in the area of quick information sharing, creating awareness, among others.
Meanwhile, the swedish ambassador Karl Backeus expressed his excitement over the commitment of citizens working in line with the National society for proper implementation of projects.
Ambassador Backeus extended appreciations to citizens of Norkwia Community for the high reception during his visitation.
Speaking in separate voices, residents extended appreciations to the Liberia National Red Cross society for their humanitirian ways in contributing to the well-being of inhabitants in the area.
They expressed their commitment to manage those dedicated items for long term enjoyment. They also provided food items inclusive of cassava, vegetables, and rice as products from the farming activities; goat, and chicken as appreciation to the Swedish ambassador.
In a remark, Grand Kru County superintendent Hon. Antoinette Worwelee Nimely extended appreciations to the Liberia National Red Cross society for their huge contribution in the county.
Hon. Nimely called on citizens to manage the hand pump dedicated to the community for long term stay.
Based on the high support from the Swedish Embassy, the Liberia National Red Cross society is creating access to safe drinking water and sanitation by constructing and repairing hand pumps, Supporting households with skills and tools to build latrines, Empowering farmers with agriculture strategies, creating hygiene awareness among others.
