MONROVIA, Liberia — The Liberian National Police (LNP) has formally charged Francis Nana, the vehicle operator allegedly responsible for the death of LNP Officer Mark D. Bracewell, with the crime of Murder.
Mr. Nana was duly charged in violation of Chapter 14, Subchapter A, Section 14.1 of the Penal Law of the Republic of Liberia and has been sent to court to face prosecution.
The charging marks a significant step in the case following the death of Officer Bracewell, a tragedy that has drawn considerable public and law enforcement attention. Chapter 14 of the Liberian Penal Law addresses “Offenses Involving Danger to the Person,” and Subchapter A specifically covers “Criminal Homicide.” The specific Section 14.1 of the Penal Law outlines the offense of Murder, which carries severe penalties under Liberian law.
Officer Bracewell was fatally killed in a road accident on the night of Saturday, September 27, 2025 in Vai Town.
The LNP has not however, release full details surrounding the circumstances of Officer Bracewell’s death, but the charge of Murder indicates that investigators believe the vehicle operator’s actions met the necessary criteria for intentional criminal homicide as defined by the statute.
The case will now proceed through the Liberian judicial system, where Mr. Nana will have the opportunity to enter a plea and face trial. The move to charge and send the suspect to court underscores the commitment of the Liberian National Police and the Ministry of Justice to pursue justice for the fallen officer.
Earlier this morning, the perpetrator, Francis Nana was taken to court as the mother and family members of the fallen LNP officer Mark Bracewell mourned over his tragic passing.
The wider Liberian public and the LNP await the court proceedings as the case against Francis Nana officially begins.
