Sehyikimpa, Nimba County — The Ministry of Agriculture, led by Minister Dr. J. Alexander Nuetah, has officially launched the 2025 National Rice Harvesting Season, marking another big step under the “Liberians Feed Yourselves Agenda.”
The launch took place on a 6.5-hectare farm cultivated by the Mekersahn Farming Group, producing an estimated 10 metric tons of rice. Farmers, community members, and officials joined in celebration, showcasing the growing momentum of Liberia’s rice sector.
Minister Nuetah praised the farmers’ dedication and the untapped potential of Nimba’s lowlands:
“Today, we symbolically launch the harvest season nationwide. Nimba County has the potential to grow much more rice if we fully develop all its lowlands.”
He also reaffirmed the government’s support through mechanization, infrastructure, and affordable access to tractors and power tillers, announcing a total of three mechanization centers to be established in Nimba County – Kpein, Gbedin, and Tappitta.
With plans to expand irrigation, engage young Liberians, and modernize farming practices, the Ministry is driving Liberia toward food self-sufficiency by 2029.
