Monrovia—Former Montserrado County District 9 Representative Candidate and renowned Liberian lawyer, Cllr. Miller Katakai, has highly praised the level of progress being made under the leadership of President Joseph Nyuma Boakai.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with The Informer Newspaper today in Monrovia, Cllr. Katakai expressed confidence in the Unity Party (UP)-led government, stating the country is “moving forward and making things to happen.”
“UP is the party that I believe can deliver this country,” Cllr. Katakai emphasized.
The former Montserrado County District 9 Representative Candidate also addressed talk of internal differences within the ruling party. He acknowledged that while some issues may arise, they are addressed once raised.
Speaking further, Cllr. Katakai flatly thrashed all rumors of him being sidelined by the UP. “I am not disappointed in any way. I am not sidelined,” he clarified, emphasizing his commitment to the party. “I remain UP and when the time is right I will be chosen to serve.”
Comparing his current position to a football match, Cllr. Katakai noted: “Sometimes you keep the best for the crucial time in the game. The essence is to win the game.”
He affirmed that he has no regrets about not currently serving in the administration. “We want to deliver this country, so we have no regret against anybody why today we are not in government,” he said.
The renowned Liberian lawyer remains optimistic, however, that he will soon be called upon by President Boakai. “Very soon I will be selected and I will be a very good substitute,” he stated.
Meanwhile, Cllr. Katakai stressed his commitment to working with everyone, including Hon. Saah Foko, the incumbent Representative of Montserrado County District 9, who defeated him in the 2023 general and presidential elections.
“I will work with everybody, where I live, where my partisans live and where Liberians live,” he asserted.
Cllr. Katakai rebuked the notion that he and Rep. Foko are enemies, despite their political differences. “He’s in CDC, I am in UP, but we respect one another,” he concluded.
