Monrovia, Liberia — President Joseph Nyumah Boakai, Sr. has relieved the Director General and Deputy Director General of the National Public Health Institute of Liberia (NPHIL), effective immediately. The President’s decision, announced today, cites “administrative reasons” as the basis for the change in leadership.
Those relieved of their duties are:
Dr. Dougbeh Chris Nyan – Director General
Dr. Adams K. Lincoln – Deputy Director General
The move is consistent with President Boakai’s stated commitment to fostering effective leadership, accountability, and institutional efficiency across all sectors of government.
Interim Leadership Appointed
Following the removal of the two top officials, President Boakai has named Dr. Sia Wata Camanor to serve as the Interim Director General (Officer-in-Charge) of NPHIL.
Dr. Camanor has been directed to coordinate and work collaboratively with the NPHIL Board, the Ministry of Health, other government agencies, and partners to ensure the Institute’s stability and continuity of operations. Her mandate will continue until a new Director General is officially recruited and appointed.
NPHIL plays a critical role in Liberia’s health security, coordinating responses to infectious disease outbreaks, conducting public health research, and strengthening the nation’s laboratory system. This sudden change in its top command signals a decisive action by the Boakai administration to address administrative and efficiency issues within key public institutions.
The government is expected to provide further details regarding the recruitment process for the new permanent leadership in the coming weeks.
