MONROVIA — Liberian Hipco artist Christoph The Change and his management team have issued a formal apology following public outcry over an “inappropriate” musical performance at Convent Catholic School.
The controversy erupted after a viral verse from an adult-oriented track was performed during a school event, sparking criticism from parents and the public regarding the suitability of the content for minors.
Responding to the backlash, Christoph’s management team stated: “We deeply regret that an inappropriate verse was included during the school event. Prior to the performance, our team provided an approved list of songs deemed suitable for the audience. Despite these precautions, the students’ audible request for a particular viral verse created an unforeseen situation.”
“It is important to clarify that the song in question, ‘XXX,’ was explicitly created for adult audiences. Christoph has consistently discouraged minors from engaging with this content and has personally intervened in the past when students have recited the verse,” the statement continued.
The management team further clarified: “In response to the students’ chants, the team immediately instructed the DJ to change the track. However, the DJ did not comply because the audience had already begun chanting along—a circumstance beyond the artist’s control. Nevertheless, we acknowledge that this moment should not have occurred.”
The team promised to contact the school administration to extend a formal, in-person apology, noting that “Christoph is committed to learning from this experience and reaffirms his dedication to responsible entertainment, especially in settings with young audiences.”
“We offer our sincerest apologies to the parents, the administration of Convent Catholic School—an institution Christoph holds in high esteem—and to all fans who were rightly disappointed. As entertainers, we strive to connect with and satisfy our audience, but we take full responsibility for this lapse in performance protocol,” the statement concluded.
