Monrovia — The 2024 International Health Regulations (IHR) Amendments to the IHR (2005) domestication workshop has officially opened in Monrovia.
The four-day workshop, taking place from 15–18 December 2025, will bring together key national stakeholders from across various sectors at the Boulevard Hotel.
The workshop aims to strengthen stakeholder understanding of the purpose, scope, and implications of the 2024 IHR amendments to the IHR (2005). It also seeks to support the formal designation and annual renewal of the National IHR Authority (NIA) and the National IHR Focal Point (NFP), including the effective use of WHO guidance for official notification and communication with the World Health Organization.
A key focus of the engagement is the initiation of the domestication process for the amended IHR through the review and updating of national public health laws, policies, and strategic plans.
The workshop further aims to clarify institutional roles and responsibilities through a multisectoral One Health Technical Working Group (TWG), ensuring coordinated action across human, animal, and environmental health sectors.
In addition, participants are working to build national consensus on sustainable financing mechanisms and strengthen parliamentary oversight to support effective implementation of IHR obligations and Liberia’s National Action Plan for Health Security (NAPHS).
The workshop represents a critical step toward enhancing Liberia’s public health preparedness, response capacity, and compliance with international health obligations in line with the updated IHR framework. #nphilmedia #HealthRegulation #HealthSecurity
