Monrovia, Liberia — The Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency (LDEA), through its Bo Waterside Detachment, has successfully intercepted and seized a significant quantity of illicit drugs valued at over USD 112,000 at the Bo Waterside Port of Entry, Grand Cape Mount County.
On Saturday, October 11, 2025, at approximately 1:30 p.m., following credible intelligence, LDEA officers conducting a routine search and discovered 1,067 packs of Tapentadol, commonly known as Tramadol, concealed in two white slippers bags belonging to Mr. Mohammed M. Sheriff, a 38year old Liberian national. The suspect was reportedly traveling from Freetown, Sierra Leone, en route to Monrovia, Liberia.
The confiscated drugs, with an estimated street value of USD 112,315.78 or its equivalent to LRD 21,340,000.00, represent a major disruption to cross border drug trafficking operations.
The LDEA attributes this successful interception to the enhanced border management trainings and technical support provided by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) and the Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL) Liberia, which continue to strengthen the Agency’s capacity to detect and deter illicit drug smuggling at Liberia’s borders and at large.
The LDEA reaffirms its unwavering commitment to safeguarding Liberia’s borders and protecting communities from the harmful effects of illegal drugs.
