The Liberia National Fire Service (LNFS) has commenced a vigorous fire prevention and awareness campaign across the country.
According to the Director General of the LNFS, Hon.G Warsuwah Barvoul,Sr., the exercise is important because prevention is better than cure, and it will help save lives.
Director General Barvoul made the statement recently when the LNFS toured several communities in Monrovia.
“Prevention is better than cure,” Hon. Barvoul said. ” Fighting the fire before occuring is the best and can save lives,” he stressed.
The LNFS boss said statistics in their possession indicates that fire from current is the major cause of fire disaster in the country.
He also narrated that ignorance and the careless use of substances such as matches, candle and mosquitoes coil are contributive factors that lead to frequent fire hazard in the country.
Also, the LNFS boss admonished residents of the communities to carry out careful wiring of their homes using the ‘AWG’ wire # 10 or # 12.
” Whenever you want to put current in your homes, please contact a notable electrician and buy the AWG # 10 or # 12 wire,” Hon. Barvoul stated.
Director General Barvoul warned the various communities ‘ residents that whenever fire outbreak in a home becomes intense, there’s no need to re – enter the house once a person have made an escaped.
In a brief chat with reporters during the campaign, the LNFS boss said the fire prevention and mass awareness campaign points to the three major fire safety measures including: Before, During and After.
During the exercise, staff of the LNFS distributed stickers with fired prevention messages, and had one on one engagement with residents of the communities.
The LNFS presented the following emergency numbers for quick response: Station #1, 0770832681; Station#2, 0770832682; Station#3,0770832684 and Station #5, 0770832685.
At the same time, residents of the communities welcomed the LNFS, posed queries and promised to adhere to fire prevention and safety measures.
Director General Barvoul was also accompanied by Col. Emmanuel K. Farr, deputy for administration of the LNFS.
The LNFS fire prevention and awareness campaign team visited Barnersville market, Pepper Wulu town market in Johnsonville, Neklay Town market and the Police Academy community football field in Paynesville City.
