Monrovia – In a worrying sign of division within Liberia’s security system, an officer of the Liberia National Police (LNP), identified as Saywon Wulah, commonly known as “Ricky Ross,” has accused a fellow officer, Alexander Carter, of issuing death threats against him.
According to Officer Wulah, the threats stem from claims made by Carter, who allegedly accused him of informing the Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency (LDEA) that Carter was involved in drug sales and trafficking.
“The man said I told LDEA officers that he sells drugs. He called me and started threatening my life and insulting my mother. To be honest, I didn’t tell anyone such a thing,” Officer Wulah told Liberian news outlet DN News.
He further alleged that Officer Carter, who serves as an intelligence officer at the Old Road Police Station, threatened to send thugs after him if he ever went to the Old Road area.
“Carter said he would send ‘gronna pekin dem’ on me to beat me up if I go to Old Road. I feel threatened by his statement, and I’ve come to the press to let the world know that Carter threatened me,” Wulah added.
When contacted over the allegation, Officer Alexander Carter admitted to making the threats but claimed they were made out of anger. He alleged that Officer Wulah had been spreading false accusations about him dealing in drugs because of his family ties.
“To admit, I said those words, but I was angry. Saywon has been lying on my name all around, accusing me and other police officers of dealing drugs. That’s bad! How can I sell drugs when I’m a police officer?” Carter said.
He further claimed that the allegations were motivated by a personal grudge.
“Saywon’s making up lies because my brother-in-law, who’s Nigerian, refused to give him money. He’s angry and now calling me a drug dealer,” Carter explained.
Carter also disclosed that, as a result of Wulah’s allegations, LDEA officers recently searched his business center on the Old Road but found nothing incriminating.
Meanwhile, Officer Wulah has confirmed that he has filed an official complaint with the Professional Standards Division (PSD) of the Liberia National Police, accusing Officer Carter of threats against his life.
