Monrovia, Liberia – The Liberia National Police (LNP) is actively investigating a disturbing report of an alleged gang rape involving a 60-year-old female victim in Ganta, Nimba County.
According to the LNP, one suspect has been arrested and charged. A second suspect remains at large, and a manhunt is underway to ensure he is brought to justice.
Preliminary findings reveal that the second suspect is the son of a serving LNP officer. That officer is currently under investigation by the Professional Standards Department at LNP Headquarters for allegedly obstructing the arrest process. The LNP assures the public that this investigation will be handled with complete impartiality.
The Liberia National Police condemns all forms of sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV) and reaffirms its commitment to upholding the rule of law, protecting the vulnerable, and ensuring that no one is above the law, including its own members.
“This matter is being pursued with urgency, professionalism, and sensitivity to the victim and her family,” the LNP said in a statement. The LNP urges members of the public to cooperate with investigators and to continue reporting SGBV cases through trusted community channels.
