Monrovia – Former Assistant Minister of Agriculture and Vice Chair for Operations of opposition political party Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC) Alvin Wesseh has called for the protection of dismissed Deputy Director General for Administration at the Liberia Drugs Enforcement Agency (LDEA), Mr. Gwee K. Porkpah following his recent dismissal by President Joseph Nyuma Boakai.
Alvin Wesseh said President Boakai decision to dismiss Mr. Porkpah weeks after revealing that officials from all three branches of the government play role in the influx of drugs in Liberia is a complete disregard for the whistle-blower law.
The former Assistant Minister in a Facebook post said, “LDEA’s Deputy who got dismissed for accusing JNB & government officials needs protection! His life is at risk for exposing this government. He was a patriotic whistle blower in the system! And an integrity icon!”
Director General, Mr. Anthony K. Souh, Deputy Director General for Administration, Mr. Gwee K. Porkpah and Deputy Director General for Operations, Mr. Sebastian Farr were today, 28th August, dismissed by Liberian leader Joseph Boakai. Their dismissal follows controversy over the suspension of Chief of Operations Abraham O. Payne (U-704) following the emergence of an audio recording allegedly implicating him (U-704) instructing the release of his daughter who was reportedly arrested in a ghetto.
Several opposition figures have come in defense of Mr. Porkpah following his dismissal by President Boakai, accusing the Liberian leader of disregarding the whistle-blower law.
It can be recalled that on August 7, 2025, at a Ministry of Information, Cultural Affairs and Tourism (MICAT) Regular Press Briefing, Mr. Porkpah accused officials from the three branches of government of being involved into drugs business.
“I will say it openly, from the Legislature, the Executive to the Judiciary, you go in the sector you will find somebody involved with drug. The reason is simple; drug is a lucrative business so everybody wants to get money. For that you will find somebody somewhere who is involved, so, when you are fighting drugs you are fighting people from everywhere”, Mr. Porkpah said at the MICAT briefing.
While communities across Liberia have joined the government to help curb the situation of drugs and substance abuse in their various communities, opposition and critics of the government see the suspension of Mr. Porkpah as undermining the drug fight following his stunning revelation.
Since the allegation by Mr.Porkpah, there has not been any investigation into his statement which critics have continued to question the government about.
