Monrovia, Montserrado County — A commitment by Liberian politician and humanitarian Dr. Thomas Nimene Tweh, Jr. to improving public education infrastructure has taken a significant step forward with the ongoing production of 10,000 armchairs.
Earlier this month Dr. Tweh in a pledge announced the provision of 10,000 chairs to public schools to help address the situation of students sitting on floor during classes.
The production launch is a direct response to the long-standing challenge of inadequate seating in many public schools, which often forces students to sit on the floor during lessons. Dr. Tweh famously known in Liberia as Original Country Man emphasized the core motivation behind the project, stating, “No student should have to sit on the floor to learn. Every child deserves a seat in a dignified learning environment.”
This substantial pledge by Country Man aims to directly address the seating crisis, ensuring a more conducive and respectful setting for learning for thousands of students. The 10,000 armchairs which are already been produced, are expected to be distributed to schools most in need within Montserrado County in the coming months once they are completed.
The initiative has been met with widespread positive feedback from educators, parents, and community leaders who view it as a crucial investment in the future of Liberia’s youth. The provision of basic necessities like appropriate seating is seen as foundational to creating effective learning environments.
A Focus on Dignity and Learning
Original Country Man’s statement highlights the importance of dignity in the educational process. A proper seat is not just a logistical necessity but a recognition of the student’s value and right to a comfortable space to focus on their studies.
The project not only provides furniture but also stimulates local economic activity, as the production is being managed locally. The completion and distribution of all 10,000 units will represent a major milestone in ongoing efforts to upgrade the facilities of public institutions in Montserrado County.
