Grand Kru County, Liberia — As part of the Green Inclusive Resilience Liberia Initiative, the Liberia National Red Cross Society (LNRC) has successfully concluded a one-day training on Menstrual Hygiene Management (MHM) with students and school administrators in Barclayville, Grand Kru County.
The training, held on November 11, 2025 at the LNRC office in Barclayville, brought together students, school administrators, representatives of the Red Cross, and other stakeholders.
Speaking at the event, LNRC Health Manager
Saavia Naame emphasized that the gathering aimed to nurture female students on the importance of proper hygiene management. She noted that due to traditional and cultural practices, many girls often feel unsafe to express the challenges they face, which leads to stigma and silence.
To address this, she explained, the Red Cross found it necessary to engage school administrators, educational stakeholders, and health officials to build a clear understanding of menstrual hygiene management practices in schools and communities. By equipping girls with basic knowledge, she added, they will feel free and confident to openly discuss good hygiene practices in society.
As part of the support, beneficiaries received sanitary pads, soap, undergarments, and other essential items. Naame urged participants to put into practice what they learned and to share ideas with their peers to strengthen awareness.
Representing the County Health Team, Promotion Focal Person Martin Sengbe encouraged male counterparts to fully support girls during their menstrual period. He stressed that menstruation is a natural process in every female’s life and requires collective support and understanding.
Participants expressed excitement over the knowledge gained and extended appreciation to the Liberia National Red Cross Society for the initiative. They called for continuous support and pledged to use the materials wisely to promote their well-being.
