Grand Kru County, Liberia — The President of the Grand Kru Rural Women Organization, Madam Edith Jarteh, has expressed deep sadness over the death of about three young people in Grand Kru County, reportedly due to drug abuse.
Speaking with reporters on November 4, 2025 in Barclayville, Madam Jarteh described the situation as “worrisome and heartbreaking,” emphasizing that the growing wave of drug consumption among the youth continues to pose a serious threat to the county’s future.
She appealed to those involved in the sale and distribution of harmful substances to desist immediately and consider engaging in meaningful and lawful business activities to sustain themselves.
At the same time, Madam Jarteh called on young people in Grand Kru to focus their energy on productive ventures rather than involving in drug use, which destroys their lives and undermines community development.
Furthermore, she urged the national government to prioritize the empowerment of young people in the county by attracting companies and introducing programs that will create employment and livelihood opportunities.
Madam Jarteh concluded by reaffirming her organization’s commitment to working with local authorities and partners to raise awareness against drug abuse across the county.
