MONROVIA – The Student Disciplinary Committee (SDC) of the University of Liberia (UL) has launched a formal response following the spread of social media footage showing students vandalizing campus property.
In a strongly worded statement released by SDC Chairman Andrew K. Dean, the university expressed “grave concern” over videos and photographs depicting the intentional defacement of buildings at the Capitol Hill campus.
The statement from the university authorities follows after circulation of video footage and photos online shows students splashing and smearing paint across several university facilities, including the Graduate School. The SDC has categorized these actions as a deliberate destruction of institutional property and a “blatant disregard” for the academic environment.
The committee emphasized that such behavior directly violates the University of Liberia Student Handbook, noting that the acts do not reflect the discipline or civic responsibility expected of students at the nation’s premier institution.
Therefore, the University has made it clear that there will be no tolerance for misconduct that undermines its integrity.
In a statement, authorities warned the public and the university community is currently reviewing the footage to identify all individuals involved in the vandalism, stating that, “Any student found in violation of university regulations will face disciplinary consequences in accordance with the Student Handbook.”
“The SDC remains committed to safeguarding university property and maintaining the school’s reputation as a center of excellence.”
“The University of Liberia expects its students to demonstrate responsible behavior that upholds the dignity, values, and reputation of the University at all times,” the statement continued.
A Call for Integrity
Chairman Dean concluded the notice by calling on the student body to act as positive ambassadors for the institution. The committee is urging students to conduct themselves with maturity and respect for the facilities provided for their education.
