Monrovia – The meetings of various Committees of the West African Examinations Council (WAEC), Liberia, namely, the Liberia Examinations Committee, the Liberia Appointments Committee, the Liberia Administrative, and Finance Committee, and the Liberia National Committee which is the highest decision-making organ of the Council in Liberia were held in Monrovia from Monday, November 10 to Friday, November 14, 2025. The Council Committees comprise Government nominees, representatives of the Ministry of Education, the Association of Liberian Universities, the National Association of Liberia School Principals, the National Teachers Association of Liberia, and other interest groups, with the Deputy Minister for Instruction, Honourable Amos A. Fully, who is the country’s Chief Government Nominee on Council as Chairman.
At its meeting, the Liberia Examinations Committee received reports and statistics on the examinations conducted by WAEC in the country in 2025. It also considered reports on Special, Irregularity, and Clemency Cases arising from the conduct of the examinations and applied appropriate sanctions against all candidates found guilty of examination malpractice. The Committee commended WAEC for liaising with relevant stakeholders, especially the Ministry of Education, to ensure the addition of thirty (30) technical and vocational subjects for selection by candidates in WASSCE beginning from 2026.
During its meeting, the Liberia Administrative and Finance Committee considered, among other matters, the Reports of the Internal and External Auditors on the Accounts of the Liberia National Office. It commended the Management for its prudent use of resources in accordance with the Council’s financial instructions and procedures. It expressed concern about the Government of Liberia’s continued indebtedness to WAEC. It appealed that the government should make efforts to pay the substantial arrears of contributions to the Headquarters to ensure the continued operation of WAEC in the country.
The Liberia Appointments Committee, on its own part, approved the appointments of newly recruited staff, as well as the confirmation and promotion of eligible staff.
At its meeting, the Liberia National Committee received and considered reports from all the other committees and commended the Management and staff of WAEC for the successful execution of the Council’s mandate with limited resources in the country.
At the conclusion of the week-long series of meetings, the Registrar to Council, Alhaji Pateh Bah, thanked the Government of Liberia for its continued commitment to supporting the Council in fulfilling its mandate in the country. He commended the Honourable Minister of Education, Dr. Jarso Malley Jallah, for keeping the doors of her office open to WAEC and urged her not to relent. He also appreciated the Chief Government Nominee on Council, Hon. Amos A. Fully, for his excellent leadership of the Liberia National Committee.
