Monrovia, Liberia – The Liberia National Police (LNP) has confirmed that on the evening of August 31, 2025, between 9:00 and 10:00 PM, an officer discharged a firearm at the Iron Gate checkpoint in Brewerville, resulting in the injury of a civilian.
According to preliminary findings by Police authorities, the officer involved has been identified as Sergeant Abdullaziz S. Kromah, Class 45, ID #5766, assigned to the Kpaykor Police Station, Brewerville.
The LNP said, at the time of the incident, Sergeant Kromah was off duty.
Sergeant Kromah, though off duty, however, he used what authorities said was not his official service arm, but one registered to another officer, Inspector Monica J. Sesay, ID # 3603, from the Emergency Response Unit (ERU).
The victim, identified as Hassan Carter, was immediately transported to the John F. Kennedy Medical Center and is currently receiving medical treatment.
Police authorities informed Newsmen that Sergeant Kromah is currently in custody while a full investigation is underway.
In August 2024, 19-year-old Manoba Mohammed was shot and killed by Inspector David S. Fayiah in Banjor, Brewerville while off-duty, a reminiscent of Sergeant Kromah action.
Inspector Fayiah, then Commander of Zone 6, Depot 3 Police Station was found culpable of the wrongful killing of victim Mohammed Manobah as a result of a verbal altercation between he and the deceased and sentenced to prison by the Monrovia City Court.
But the LNP has vowed that, “No officer will be shielded from responsibility, and the public will be kept fully informed as the investigation progresses”.
The Liberia National Police said in a statement that it remains steadfast in its commitment to uphold the rule of law. “We stand firm in our duty to serve with integrity and openness”, the LNP statement concluded.
