DISTRICT #3, GRAND BASSA COUNTY – A wave of relief has swept through several underserved communities in Grand Bassa County following a high-impact three-day surgical outreach that has restored the health and livelihoods of nearly 100 residents.
The initiative, which ran from February 27 to March 1, 2026, was spearheaded by the Nyonblee Cares Foundation in partnership with the Grand Bassa County Health Team. Hosted at the Gorblee Health Center, the mission targeted rural citizens who have long struggled with manageable but debilitating surgical conditions.
By the Numbers: Impact at a Glance
The medical team, comprised of five specialized doctors and a dedicated cohort of supporting health workers, managed a massive turnout from surrounding towns.
Metric Detail
According to a statement from the foundation, a total of 341 patients were screened with 93 procedures successful. The primary cases were Hernia repairs and Lipoma removals with a success rate of 100% (zero complications).
For many in District #3, these surgeries represent more than just medical relief—they are an economic lifeline. For years, many beneficiaries were unable to engage in manual labor or farming due to chronic pain and physical limitations.
“We saw people who had been sidelined from their farms for years,” one health worker noted. “By addressing these hernias and growths, we aren’t just healing bodies; we are restoring the productivity of the entire community.”
Beyond the operating room, the outreach established formal referral pathways, ensuring that patients have a clear roadmap for medical follow-ups and long-term care.
Leadership and Collaboration
The outreach was sponsored by Pro-tempore of the Liberia Senate and Grand Bassa Senator Nyonblee Karnga-Lawrence, whose foundation continues to prioritize healthcare accessibility in rural Liberia. The collaborative effort between the private foundation and the County Health Team has been hailed as a model for addressing the surgical gap in remote regions.
As the surgical team concluded their mission on March 1st, the atmosphere at the Gorblee Health Center was one of immense gratitude, with many patients already looking forward to returning to their daily lives pain-free.
