Monrovia — Shara Community Chairlady Deiode Davies Garnett and four others, who perished in a tragic fire on November 14, 2025, were laid to rest today. Following a documentary featuring eyewitness interviews, Homeland TV has reconstructed the details of the incident.
On Friday, November 14, 2025, Mr. Isaac Garnett and his wife, Mrs. Deiode Davies Garnett, were paying a sympathy visit to a bereaved family in their community. Mrs. Garnett, intending to deliver a purse to the mourning family in her capacity as Chairlady, realized she had left it behind.
According to eyewitnesses, Mrs. Garnett hurriedly returned home to retrieve the item. Upon entering the living room, she encountered a fire that is believed to have originated in the kitchen of the two-bedroom house.
At the time of the fire, five people were inside: four in Mrs. Garnett’s room and one individual staying in the guest room.
Eyewitnesses report that when residents spotted the blaze, they rushed to a window facing the road. Seeing someone inside, they hastily removed the window bars and glass, successfully rescuing the guest. This individual was the sole survivor of the fire.
Upon being rescued, the survivor informed the residents that others were still trapped inside. Rescuers immediately moved to Mrs. Garnett’s room, removing the window bars to reach the children: Judee, Isaac, Treasure, and Christopher. All four were pulled from the house unconscious and rushed to the hospital, where they were unfortunately pronounced dead.
Initially, no one realized Mrs. Garnett was inside, as residents assumed she was still at the sympathy visit. Tragically, she had rushed into the house to save the children but succumbed to smoke inhalation.
Her body was discovered in her bathroom the following morning, bringing the death toll to five.
Today, more than two weeks after the incident, family, friends, and loved ones turned out in large numbers to pay their final respects as funeral service for the five fire victims got underway at the Harvest Intercontinental Cathedral in Congo Town. The five victims have been buried in a single tomb in Bomi County.
Tributes have continued to pour in since the news of their tragic demise broke. Our thoughts remain with Mr. Isaac Garnett and the entire family during this time of grief. May God console the Garnett family and all those affected by this tragic loss.
Those lost in the fire incident were: Mrs. Deiode Davies Garnett (April 14, 1979 – November 14, 2025), Ms. Judee Phebe Garnett ( March 30, 1995 – November 14, 2025), Isaac Horatio Garnett Jr. ( November 5, 2016 – November 14, 2025), Master Christopher Freeman ( November 13, 2018 – November 14, 2025) and Ms. Ruth Treasure Fleming ( May 28, 2024 – November 14, 2025).
