Monrovia – Renowned human rights lawyer and politician Cllr. Tiawan Gongloe has delivered a blistering critique of Vice President Jeremiah Kpan Koung, describing recent statements made by the VP regarding neighboring Guinea as “irresponsible, reckless and inflammatory.”
Speaking during a podcast on the University of Liberia Capitol Hill campus today, Cllr. Gongloe reacted to the Vice President’s claims that certain unnamed individuals in Liberia are collaborating with counterparts in Guinea to undermine stability.
VP Koung had suggested that “two or three” specific persons were “sitting in Guinea,” though he declined to name them.
Gongloe argued that such rhetoric from a high-ranking official serves only to jeopardize the diplomatic relationship between the two Mano River Union neighbors.
“That statement was irresponsible, reckless, and inflammatory and is not expected of a responsible Vice President of Liberia,” Gongloe stated. “He undermined his position by making that statement. Jeopardizing the relationship between Guinea and Liberia—we don’t need that.
“The counselor emphasized that at a time when regional stability is paramount, leadership should prioritize measured diplomacy over vague accusations that could escalate cross-border tensions. The Office of the Vice President has yet to issue an official rebuttal to Gongloe’s criticisms.
