Capitol Hill, Liberia — Numene T. H. Bartekwa has called for urgent and strengthened Public-Private Partnerships (PPPs) to address Liberia’s growing challenges in social service delivery and improve the living standards of citizens across the country.
In a formal communication dated May 26, 2026, to the Liberian Senate through the office of the President Pro-Tempore, Senator Bartekwa stressed that thousands of Liberians continue to struggle daily with limited access to essential services such as safe drinking water, electricity, and modern airport infrastructure.
The Grand Kru County lawmaker warned that the Government of Liberia alone lacks the financial and economic capacity to adequately provide all of the critical services needed by the population, particularly in rural communities where residents continue to endure harsh and deplorable living conditions.
According to Senator Bartekwa, meaningful collaboration between the government and the private sector is necessary to bridge the country’s infrastructure and service delivery gaps.
He noted that effective PPP arrangements would attract investment, technical expertise, innovation, and additional resources capable of transforming Liberia’s struggling social sectors.
The Senator further emphasized that several countries around the world have successfully used Public-Private Partnerships to expand infrastructure, improve public services, stimulate economic growth, and create employment opportunities. He believes Liberia can achieve similar progress if such partnerships are properly structured, monitored, and implemented with transparency and accountability.
Senator Bartekwa also urged the Liberian Senate to engage relevant ministries, government agencies, and key stakeholders in developing practical strategies that will strengthen partnerships aimed at directly improving the welfare of ordinary Liberians.
He maintained that improving social services remains essential to national development, poverty reduction, and sustainable economic growth, while calling on the government to prioritize policies and interventions that will ease the daily hardships faced by citizens across the country.
The communication has since been forwarded to the Senate leadership for review and appropriate legislative action.
