Monrovia, Liberia – In a significant effort to combat unemployment and expand economic opportunities at the grassroots level, Assistant Minister for Manpower at the Ministry of Labour, Emmanuel K. Barnes, through the Barnes Movement, has launched a free six-week vocational skills training program for residents of Montserrado County Electoral District #14.
The initiative, which runs from July 8 through August 26, 2026, will be hosted at Tracon Academy School in Doe Community and is expected to benefit 100 participants from communities across the district.
The program is designed to equip young people, women, and other residents with practical, industry-relevant skills that will enhance their employability, promote entrepreneurship, and create sustainable pathways to self-reliance.
Participants will receive intensive hands-on training in the following areas:
- Pastry Production
- CCTV and DSTV Installation
- Soap Science
- Tie and Dye
- Beaded Bag Production
Speaking on the initiative, the Barnes Movement said the program underscores its commitment to investing in human capital development by providing residents with the technical and entrepreneurial skills needed to compete in today’s economy.
The movement emphasized that empowering citizens through vocational education remains one of the most effective strategies for addressing unemployment, reducing poverty, and strengthening local economies.
Upon completion of the training, participants are expected to leverage their newly acquired skills to establish small businesses, secure employment opportunities, and contribute to the socio-economic advancement of their families and communities.
The Barnes Movement has encouraged eligible residents of District #14 to take full advantage of the opportunity, describing the initiative as a long-term investment in the district’s human resource development and a practical demonstration of its commitment to empowering communities through sustainable skills development.
