MONROVIA — The Government of Liberia will convene a high-level National Steering Committee (NSC) meeting in Monrovia on Tuesday, August 11, to evaluate progress and refine strategies under the ARREST Agenda for Inclusive Development (AAID).
Gathering under the theme “Consolidating AAID Gains: Accelerating Implementation into Measurable and People-Centered Outcomes,” the session marks the completion of the flagship development plan’s first full year of implementation in 2025.
Chaired by the President of Liberia with support from the United Nations Resident Coordinator as deputy chairperson, the National Steering Committee serves as the central oversight body for the AAID. Tuesday’s meeting brings together Cabinet ministers, heads of ministries, agencies, and commissions (MACs), international development partners, civil society leaders, private sector representatives, and members of the Liberian diaspora.
The high-level session comes at a pivotal juncture as Liberia navigates pressing global and domestic challenges, including rising fuel prices, macroeconomic fluctuations, and shifting international development finance structures. Committee members will focus on addressing implementation bottlenecks, realigning national priorities for 2026 and beyond, and establishing clearer policy direction for development financing.
A primary item on the agenda is the formal review and approval of the AAID Year One Progress Report, which outlines key accomplishments, persistent challenges, and operational lessons from 2025. Concurrently, government officials will review draft updates covering performance in the first two quarters of 2026 alongside sector summaries and Liberia’s Voluntary National Review.
Beyond assessing past performance, the committee is slated to deliver several key strategic policy measures, including approving the AAID Year One Status Report to establish a transparent tracking baseline, issuing guidance for an integrated financing framework, adopting a high-level communiqué on strategic commitments through 2027, and endorsing 2027 national priorities aligned with global development goals.
To ensure actionable results, the session will pair technical presentations with structured plenary discussions. Proceedings and ongoing monitoring will be managed by the AAID Coordination Team at the Ministry of Finance and Development Planning (MFDP), operating in partnership with the Cabinet Secretariat to track progress across implementing institutions.
