West Point, Monrovia – Since County Senator Cryton O. Duncan was warmly received and honored by residents of West Point Township for his bold leadership and advocacy for national empowerment.
But it was his action on education that sparked immediate praise: the senator awarded 500 full scholarships to out-of-school children at N.V. Massaquoi Elementary and Junior High School, giving hundreds of underprivileged students a second chance at education.
“No child should be left behind simply because their parents can’t afford to pay school fees,” Senator Duncan said. “These 500 scholarships are a step toward changing that reality—and we’re just getting started.”
The scholarships target students who, due to financial hardship, were unable to enroll in school this academic year. Parents and community leaders hailed the move as a major boost for education in one of Monrovia’s most vulnerable communities.
Following the scholarship announcement, Senator Duncan delivered a powerful and uncompromising speech that drew loud applause from the gathered crowd.
He sharply criticized Liberia’s longstanding reliance on foreign powers and called out national leaders for allowing the continued exploitation of the country’s natural resources.
“Our leaders are still lying in bed with the white man,” he declared. “They’ve sold out our land, our forests, our minerals—and our people are left with nothing but suffering. That must end.”
He called on Liberians to wake up and take full control of the nation’s destiny, emphasizing that real development can only come from within. “We must stop looking outside for solutions. Our future is in our own hands. It’s time to stand up and own what belongs to us.”
As part of this national call to action, Senator Duncan also announced the launch of Our Movement—a new political platform committed to defending the rights of Liberians, ensuring national ownership of resources, and investing in the country’s human capital.
The event in West Point was more than a community celebration—it marked the rise of a new voice demanding change, accountability, and opportunity for all Liberians.
