Monrovia, Liberia — Auditor General P. Garswa Jackson has clarified that audits carried out by the General Auditing Commission are intended to improve governance and accountability within government institutions, not to embarrass public officials or agencies.
Speaking on ELBC, Jackson said audits remain an important tool in promoting transparency and ensuring that public resources are properly managed.He noted that the work of the Commission helps identify weaknesses in government systems and encourages reforms aimed at improving efficiency and financial accountability.
Jackson also disclosed that a comprehensive audit conducted at the Civil Service Agency resulted in reforms that saved the Liberian government millions of dollars.According to him, the findings from the audit contributed to stronger accountability measures and better management practices within the institution.
The Auditor General stressed that public institutions should see audits as part of efforts to strengthen governance and protect public resources rather than viewing them as punitive measures.He reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to promoting integrity, transparency, and responsible financial management across government institutions.
