MONROVIA – The Liberia National Police (LNP) has launched a formal investigation into the death of the wife of prominent political analyst Samuel Jackson, citing evidence of a “possible homicide.” Following a preliminary examination of the remains, security personnel were deployed to the Jackson residence in Monrovia late Friday evening.
In an exclusive interview with Spoon TV, Police Spokesperson Sam Collins revealed that the decision to escalate the investigation came after investigators discovered visible bruises on the body of the deceased.
“A very deep laceration was seen on the head of the deceased. We saw what appears to be bruises on the body. Mr. Jackson also alluded that there was blood on the scene of the incident. Sam Jackson is a person of interest. This is an alleged homicide investigation.
The police will remain deployed at his home,” police spokesman Sam Collins stated.
Collins confirmed that the initial inspection of Mrs. Jackson was conducted in the presence of a representative from the South African embassy, a representative of Mr. Jackson, and the Montserrado County coroner, warning that, Mr. Jackson, who is now a person of interest in the death of the South African national turns himself over and cooperate with investigators.
The situation has sent shockwave across Liberia as tension rises at the home of Mr. Jackson in Monrovia.
Earlier on Friday, Samuel Jackson had taken to his official Facebook page to announce his wife’s passing, an announcement that sparked a massive outpouring of tributes from friends, colleagues, and the Liberian diaspora. While initial reports focused on a medical emergency and a lack of available ambulances, the discovery of physical injuries has shifted the focus of authorities.
The LNP has cordoned off the family residence as forensic teams begin their work to ascertain the cause of death.
This is a developing story. We will provide updates as more details emerge.
