MONROVIA – Guaranty Trust Bank (Liberia) Limited has categorically rejected reports suggesting that internal technical issues are responsible for delays in disbursing government employee salaries for February.
In an official statement released in Monrovia on March 26, 2026, the bank labeled such media reports and public speculation as “inaccurate and misleading.” The bank clarified that the current bottleneck is not due to internal processing errors, but rather a lack of incoming funds from the government.
According to the statement, GTBank has not yet received the necessary funds through standard clearing channels to facilitate disbursements. The bank emphasized that until these funds are cleared and deposited by the relevant government authorities, it is legally and operationally unable to credit beneficiary accounts.
The bank’s clarification comes as thousands of civil servants across Liberia express growing frustration over the delay of their February paychecks. In an effort to maintain public trust, the bank stated that “any reports blaming GTBank for the delay are false.”
“GTBank continues to uphold the highest standards of transparency, professionalism, and service delivery,” the statement concluded, emphasizing the bank’s role as a neutral intermediary in the payment process.
Earlier this month, the Plenary of the House of Representatives took formal action regarding concerns over salary delays. The House directed the Sergeant-at-Arms to ensure the appearance of the Minister of Finance and Development Planning, along with his deputies and the Comptroller General, before the full body to explain the specific circumstances causing the delays.
Though earlier reports attributed the delays to technical glitches in payroll verification and ongoing long-term modernization efforts, rather than addressing specific day-to-day processing delays at commercial bank, however, GTBank Liberia Limited has moved to distance itself from the reports.
