MONROVIA – The former Speaker of the 55th Legislature and Representative of Grand Kru County District #2, J. Fonati Koffa, has firmly declined calls from supporters to contest for the Montserrado County Senatorial seat in 2029.
In a statement released via his official Facebook page today, Koffa acknowledged the surge of public interest following his recent victory in the Shine Poll, an online metric used to gauge political opinion in Liberia. While expressing gratitude for the support, the Grand Kru lawmaker made it clear that his immediate political future remains tied to his current constituency and party obligations.
Koffa admitted he was “flattered” by the prospect of representing Liberia’s most vote-rich county but emphasized his unwavering commitment to the voters who originally elected him.
“My current focus is to do the work the people of District #2, Grand Kru County, elected me to do,” Koffa stated.
The lawmaker’s reaffirmation aims to quiet concerns among his constituents that he might abandon his legislative duties in the Southeast for a more central political role in the capital.
Beyond his legislative responsibilities, Koffa highlighted a specific mandate from the Congress for Democratic Change (CDC) leadership. He noted that a primary pillar of his current agenda is fulfilling the directive of the party’s Standard Bearer to oversee a major infrastructure milestone for the institution. The former Speaker is currently spearheading the delivery of the CDC’s new headquarters, which he described as a “world-class” project.
Political analysts suggest that Koffa’s statement is a calculated move to maintain stability within the CDC coalition. By choosing to fulfill the party leadership’s mandate rather than chasing a new electoral seat in Montserrado, Koffa is positioning himself as a disciplined loyalist and a reliable executor of the CDC’s long-term vision.
“That is the future for me,” Koffa concluded, ending his message with a note of affection to his supporters: “Love to all.”
For now, the “Koffa for Montserrado” movement appears to be at a standstill, as the Representative turns his full attention back to the development of Grand Kru and the completion of the CDC’s architectural future.
