Buchanan City, Grand Bassa County — Senior staff of the Secretariat of the National Elections Commission of Liberia (NEC-Liberia) have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening transparency, accountability, and institutional effectiveness following a leadership retreat held in Buchanan, Grand Bassa County.
The one-day retreat brought together members of the Secretariat under the theme ‘Empowering Leadership for Collective Success through Accountability and Transparency.’
At the close of the session, participants adopted a Statement of Commitment aimed at reinforcing ethical leadership and improving operational efficiency within the Commission.
The Secretariat acknowledged the critical role the Commission plays in safeguarding Liberia’s electoral processes and ensuring the conduct of free, fair, and credible elections.
Among the key commitments adopted was a pledge to promote ethical and responsible leadership, strengthen accountability mechanisms, and ensure that decision-making processes within the Commission are guided by openness, clarity, and adherence to established legal frameworks.
The NEC Secretariat also emphasized the importance of teamwork and collective responsibility, noting that effective collaboration among departments and sections is essential to achieving the Commission’s strategic objectives.
Participants further committed to strengthening administrative systems and improving coordination across the Secretariat to enhance service delivery and overall institutional performance.
The Secretariat noted that these measures are intended to reinforce public trust and confidence in the Commission and contribute to the continued consolidation of Liberia’s electoral processes.
The retreat was facilitated by three distinguished professionals: Professor Wilson K. Tarpeh, Rev. Foday Karpeh, and Dr. Theophilus Dowetin, an international elections expert.
Delivering presentations on various leadership themes, the facilitators challenged participants to uphold the required skills, ethical standards, and best practices necessary for the effective management and administration of the National Elections Commission of Liberia.
Meanwhile, staff of NEC Commissioners are expected to benefit from similar retreat scheduled for Saturday, 14 March 2026 in Buchanan, Grand Bassa County.
