MONROVIA, LIBERIA — The Liberia Chapter of the West African College of Physicians (WACP) officially convened its 10th Annual General and Scientific Meeting (AGSM) on today, July 17, 2026, at the Sinkor Palace Hotel in Monrovia.
The landmark 10th-anniversary milestone coincides with a celebratory golden jubilee, as the regional WACP body commemorates 50 years of medical excellence and specialist training across West Africa.
Led by Dr. Musu Duworko, Chairperson of the WACP Liberia Chapter and regional Vice President, the meeting brings together specialist physicians, resident doctors, and public health practitioners. The AGSM serves as a critical platform for medical professionals to share scientific research, review healthcare standards, and address persistent challenges within the Liberian health system, such as epidemic preparedness, maternal and child health, and the reduction of costly medical referrals abroad.
Prior to the formal scientific sessions, the WACP Liberia Chapter launched a massive community medical outreach in the Borough of New Kru Town. The initiative provided hundreds of underserved residents with free specialist consultations, health screenings for chronic conditions like hypertension and diabetes, and public health education regarding disease prevention and outbreak preparedness.
Dr. Duworko, ahead of the meeting expressed pride in ensuring that Liberia has specialist healthcare services delivered by Liberian physicians trained right here at home, emphasizing the college’s success in fostering homegrown medical expertise.
The milestone event follows a high-profile meeting at the Executive Mansion, where Liberian President Joseph Boakai lauded the WACP Liberia Chapter for its pivotal role in building a resilient healthcare workforce.
President Boakai expressed implicit confidence in the nation’s medical practitioners and reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to boosting local healthcare infrastructure.
The local chapter, which actively conducts postgraduate specialist training at major institutions like the John F. Kennedy Memorial Medical Center and Phebe Hospital, has grown to include dozens of localized fellows and specialist doctors.
Following the conclusion of the local 10th AGSM in Monrovia, the Liberia Chapter will prepare to join the regional golden jubilee commemorative events scheduled for October 2026 in Abuja, Nigeria, while paving the way for Liberia to host the broader regional WACP Annual General and Scientific Meeting in 2027.
