Kakata, Margibi: — The Liberia Revenue Authority has reaffirmed its commitment to deepening collaboration with the Liberian media, recognizing its vital role in promoting transparency, accountability, and voluntary tax compliance.
Speaking during World Press Freedom Day celebrations, Acting LRA Communication Manager Jerry Laynumah Siakor emphasized that a free, independent, and responsible press remains essential to democratic governance. He noted that the media plays a key role in interpreting tax policies, fighting misinformation, and strengthening public trust in revenue administration.
He further highlighted that effective tax administration depends on public confidence, which is reinforced through strong media engagement, adding that increased tax awareness leads to improved compliance and revenue growth.
Mr. Siakor commended the media for its continued support in promoting tax education and public awareness campaigns. He reaffirmed the LRA’s commitment to openness, timely information sharing, and constructive engagement with the media.
At the same time, he urged journalists to uphold professionalism and ethical standards, stressing that press freedom must be guided by truth, fairness, and public interest in an era of rapid digital communication and misinformation.
The event brought together media leaders, government officials, development partners, and civil society actors, all underscoring the shared responsibility of strengthening democracy and advancing national development.
