Capitol Hill, Liberia – Montserrado County Electoral District #9 Representative Frank Saah Foko has formally called on the House of Representatives to intervene in ensuring that funds appropriated for legislative district development are made available and utilized to address the growing needs of communities across Liberia.
In a communication to the House Plenary, Representative Foko expressed concern over what he described as challenges surrounding the accessibility and implementation of development funds intended for legislative districts. He argued that lawmakers are elected not only to enact laws and provide oversight but also to advocate for development initiatives that directly improve the lives of their constituents.
According to the District #9 lawmaker, many communities continue to face serious infrastructure deficits, including poor road networks, inadequate educational and health facilities, limited access to safe drinking water, and other essential public services. He stressed that timely access to district development funds is critical to addressing these longstanding challenges.
Representative Foko urged the House leadership to take immediate steps to ensure that legislative development funds are disbursed in a transparent, accountable, and timely manner. He noted that the availability of such resources would enable lawmakers to implement priority projects identified by their constituents and fulfill promises made during their election campaigns.
He further emphasized that strengthening district development funding would promote equitable national development by ensuring that communities in every electoral district benefit from government-supported projects rather than concentrating development in only a few areas.
Foko also called for greater collaboration between the Legislature and the Executive Branch to eliminate bottlenecks that delay the implementation of development projects, stressing that the welfare of ordinary Liberians should remain the government’s highest priority.
The communication is expected to be reviewed by the House Plenary, which will determine the appropriate course of action regarding the concerns raised by the Montserrado County lawmaker.
