Paynesville: — Liberia’s Deputy Minister for Administration and Acting Minister at the Ministry of Information, Hon. Johnny Tarkpah, has underscored the critical role of trust in driving the country’s digital transformation, declaring that “no citizen should be left uninformed in a digitally connected Liberia.”
Speaking as keynote speaker at the 7th edition of the Liberia Internet Governance Forum held at the Liberia Learning Center in Paynesville on April 29, Tarkpah stressed that modern communication must be timely, accessible, and interactive. He revealed that government is expanding digital communication channels and strengthening real-time public engagement through data-driven strategies.
The Acting Minister of Information noted that while technology is essential, it is not the foundation of trust. “Technology alone does not build trust—people do,” he said, urging citizens to be equipped to identify misinformation and engage responsibly online.
Tarkpah emphasized that building a digitally literate society is key to national resilience, adding that digital transformation must bridge inequality rather than widen it.
“A digitally literate society is not just informed—it is resilient,” he stated.
Concluding his address, Tarkpah called for a unified national approach anchored on trust.
“Let us be guided by one truth—trust is the foundation of our digital future,” he said.
The forum brought together stakeholders from government, civil society, and students from the tech community to discuss the future of internet governance in Liberia.
