Monrovia, Liberia – The ruling Unity Party has defended the performance of the Boakai administration while urging investigators to expedite the probe into the recent seizure of suspected narcotics valued at nearly US$19 million at Roberts International Airport (RIA).
Speaking during a press conference at the party’s headquarters on Broad Street on Friday, July 10, National Chairman Rev. Dr. Luther Tarpeh said the government remains committed to transparency, accountability, and the rule of law, emphasizing that the administration of President Joseph Nyuma Boakai continues to make measurable progress in addressing the country’s key governance and development challenges.
Addressing the ongoing drug investigation, the Unity Party described the interception of the suspected cocaine shipment as a demonstration of the growing effectiveness of Liberia’s security institutions in combating transnational organized crime.
The party commended the Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency (LDEA), the Liberia Airport Authority (LAA), the Joint Security, and other state institutions for their coordinated efforts in intercepting the shipment before it entered the local market.
Reaffirming the government’s commitment to justice, the party maintained that every individual linked to the case would be investigated without fear or favor, regardless of political affiliation, financial standing, or social status. It stressed that there would be “no sacred cows” in the investigation and reiterated Liberia’s commitment to working closely with international partners to combat drug trafficking and money laundering.
While applauding the work of the security agencies, the Unity Party called on the Joint National Security Investigation Team to conclude its investigation without unnecessary delay. According to the party, a timely and transparent conclusion to the case is essential to maintaining public confidence in the country’s justice system, adding that anyone found culpable should face the full weight of the law.
Beyond the drug investigation, the party highlighted what it described as key achievements of the Boakai administration.
It praised the Ministry of Finance and Development Planning for beginning salary payments to civil servants on July 2, 2026, stating that the timely disbursement reflects improved fiscal discipline, supports household incomes, stimulates economic activity, and strengthens confidence in government.
The Unity Party also applauded the government’s management of Liberia’s petroleum sector, noting that despite instability in the Middle East and volatility in global oil markets, the country has maintained a stable fuel supply while implementing measures that have contributed to lower pump prices for consumers.
On infrastructure, the party welcomed President Boakai’s groundbreaking for the proposed four-lane highway linking the Gabriel Tucker Bridge, St. Paul Bridge, and Bo Waterside. According to the party, the project is expected to reduce traffic congestion, improve road safety, facilitate commerce, and enhance economic growth.
The Unity Party concluded by reaffirming its support for the government’s development agenda, stating that the administration remains committed to expanding infrastructure, strengthening public institutions, promoting economic stability, and improving the lives of Liberians across the country.
