Harper, Maryland County — As preparations heighten for the commemoration of International Rural Women’s Day in Maryland County, Senator James P. Biney has donated US$500 to support the activities of the county’s rural women, who are expected to host delegates from Liberia’s 14 other counties during the upcoming celebration.
The presentation was made on Tuesday, October 14, 2025, at the office of Harper City Mayor Abraham Jackson. The event brought together key stakeholders, including Madam Marie Dioh, Chairperson of the Harper District Rural Women, Newton Jah, Senator Biney’s Public Relations Officer, and several staff members.
Speaking during the brief ceremony, Mayor Jackson, who presented the money on behalf of Senator Biney, said the contribution followed a request from the rural women seeking the senator’s support for their celebration.
He explained that the donation demonstrates Senator Biney’s recognition of the vital role women play in community development and the challenges they continue to face, especially in rural areas.
“This donation represents a modest yet meaningful gesture of the senator’s appreciation for the dedication and resilience of our rural women,” Mayor Jackson said. “We are aware of the hardships they endure to sustain their families, and we hope this contribution helps ease some of their burdens.”
Newton Jah, Senator Biney’s County Relations Officer, also commended the women for their invaluable contributions to society, assuring them of the senator’s continued support.
“The senator remains committed to empowering citizens, particularly rural women, through education, entrepreneurship, and access to basic resources,” Jah said. “We hope this donation will inspire others to support these hardworking women.”
Receiving the donation, Madam Marie Dioh expressed heartfelt gratitude to Senator Biney and his team, noting that several letters seeking support had been sent to other leaders, but only Senator Biney responded positively.
“We reached out to many individuals and lawmakers within the county, but Senator Biney was the only one who came through,” she said. “We sincerely appreciate his timely support.”
Madam Dioh emphasized the need to publicize the senator’s gesture to ensure transparency and proper acknowledgment.
“We applaud our hardworking women across Maryland County and invite everyone to join us as we celebrate International Rural Women’s Day,” she added. “Together, we can continue to uplift and empower one another for a brighter future.”
The International Rural Women’s Day celebration is scheduled to take place on Thursday, October 16, 2025, in Maryland County.
